COP26 Cool Cocktail – Is it a fair COP ? Or is it a load of hot air ? Take a look COP26 . On balance the answer’s probably yes, it is a fair COP: no more deforestation by 2030, no more coal by 2050. So what are we going to do between now and then while temperatures soar, the icecap melts and the oceans rise ? We can’t travel anywhere much.
How’s about making wine ? On roughly the same latitude as the SEC in Glasgow (55.9 N) is the village of Upper Largo in Fife where Christopher Trotter planted vines in 2011 and launched Chateau Largo. The first batch was 10 bottles. Trotter told The Times “It’s not great,’ he said. ‘We have produced a vintage of, shall we say, a certain quality, but I’m confident the next will be much better”. Sadly a succession of rain-lashed seasons dashed his hopes and he ripped the vines out in 2018. Now, after a sizzingly hot summer The Times reports that he thinks he may have been too hasty.
In the absence of home-grown wine north of the Border, we’d better go for a cocktail.
A Cool Cocktail for COP26
We need something cool to offset those rising temperatures. What could be cooler than a Blue Lagoon ? It looks super-cool, a translucent Pacific blue bubbling up from the bottom of the glass like a rising ocean, and it tastes delicious.
Here’s the recipe:
1.5 parts vodka
1.5 parts Blue Curaçao
Dash of lemon juice
Dash of lime juice
Soda water
Put the first four ingredients in a generous glass 2/3 filled with ice, top up with soda and garnish with a slice or twist of orange or lemon and maybe a cocktail cherry.
